Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral’s ministries with children and families are designed to help children grow in their love of and faith in God.
Children in our Worship Services
Children are welcome and are encouraged to participate fully in all of our worship services.
Our children’s worship bookshelf and basket, located in the back cross aisle, contain books, puzzles, Children’s Bulletins, and writing utensils. Children can follow along with the Eucharist by using “A Child’s Guide to the Holy Eucharist” which can also be found on the bookshelf.
Nursery care is provided from 7:50-11:45 a.m. in Haden Hall. Our professional nursery staff is committed to providing a safe and loving environment for infants and toddlers.
Godly Play is an approach to exploring faith through stories, wonder, and play. It was developed by Jerome W. Berryman over 40 years ago and is based on Montessori principles. The approach allows children to experience biblical stories with the help of carefully chosen materials. After the story, children are given time to wonder about what they have heard and then are invited to work on a response. Godly Play sessions are designed for children 3-5 years old, but all children are welcome to attend. The children begin in the Nave with their families and process with their adult leaders, following the Collect of the Day, to their room in Haden Hall. Children return to the Nave at the Peace. http://www.godlyplay.org/
Children’s Chapel is a place where children can understand worship in an age-appropriate way, helping them to grow as faithful Christians. It’s a time of worship and learning that embraces seasonal themes and our overarching ministry as Christians. Adult volunteers assist parish staff in leading the Children’s Chapel service. The children begin in the Nave with their families and process with their adult leaders, following the Collect of the Day, to their chapel in Haden Hall. Children return to the Nave at the Peace.
The Trinity Children’s Choir
All children in kindergarten through fifth grades are invited to sing in the Trinity Children’s Choir. Preschool-age children are welcome, too, if they are able to participate in the activities. The choristers learn about the Episcopal liturgy, basic music concepts, and how to sing well. They sing during church services about every five weeks and for holy days such as Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve and Easter. Choir practices are in Haden Hall 9:15 – 10:00 am every Sunday except for the second Sunday of the month. For more information contact Patricia Eccles, Children’s Choir Director at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Family Ministry Events
Families play an integral role in Cathedral-wide events such as the Blessing of the Animals, Fall Saints’ Festival, Advent wreath-making, and more. We welcome all children, youth, and adults to participate in these parish-wide activities.
Baptism is the welcoming of a new person into the community of faith. It is also a sign of God’s unconditional love for the person being baptized, and a promise that we will walk with, care for and nurture those who are baptized into our community. Parents seeking baptism for their children are invited to speak with the clergy.
As a community of faith, we are committed to keeping your child safe. Safeguarding God’s Children is a workshop for the prevention of sexual abuse of children and youth. The Diocese of West Missouri requires this training for all employees (full or part time) of churches, schools and diocesan institutions and for all volunteers who work with children and youth in any ministry setting.
