Thank you to all who came to the Annual Meeting and helped to elect four members to the Vestry. Congratulations to new vestry members Steve Moore, Nigel Jones, and Charles Shipley, and to reelected member Pat Decker. I am looking forward to working with all of you. At our brief meeting after the Annual Meeting, the Vestry elected Valerie Johnson as Junior Warden, Blain Lagergren as Clerk of the Vestry, and Chip Buckner as Treasurer (non-Vestry member). I also appointed Steve Moore, former Chancellor, as Senior Warden. Thank you to all of you for your willingness to serve. We have set our Vestry retreat for February 17 where, among other business, we will make committee assignments. Thank you, as well, to the continued ministries of our chair of the Budget Committee, Sara Copeland, and chair of the Finance Committee, Dave Barker.

Our focus now turns to the beginning of Lent, with a possible hiccup. Should the Chiefs win next Sunday, a parade will be scheduled for sometime later that week. Last year the parade was on Wednesday. This year, that Wednesday happens to be Ash Wednesday, so we’re not sure how this might affect our services that day. We have joined with other downtown churches to reach out to the city and ask that it not be scheduled on Wednesday. I will keep everyone informed on what will happen that week, but for now, we’ll keep all our plans in place for our Mardi Gras dinner and services on Ash Wednesday.
