KC PrideFest is this weekend, and we are joining with other Episcopal churches in KC to both march in the parade and work a booth in Theis Park. On Saturday there will be a Pride Mass before the parade at St. Paul’s at 9 a.m. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and will end at Theis Park. The Diocese will have a booth in the Sponsor Tent. The Pride Mass will be livestreamed as well, if you are not able to attend in person. More information about these events can be found at pride.church. I hope you will join us.
I also hope you will join us on Sunday for our celebration of Pentecost, Wear Orange Sunday, and our Parish Picnic. We will provide the main course, and we ask everyone to bring sides or desserts.
As I just mentioned, the Feast of Pentecost is this Sunday. This day, 50 days after the resurrection, celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit and is considered the birthday of the church. It is also the first of our two feast days at the Cathedral. Pentecost for the first part of our name, and Trinity Sunday (June 15) for the second. Later this week, on June 11, we will celebrate the Feast of Saint Barnabas the Apostle at our 12:05 p.m. Eucharist. Barnabas, whose name means son of encouragement, was a missionary companion of Paul’s and helped bring the church to Cyprus. Here is the Collect we will pray for Barnabas:
Grant, O God, that we may follow the example of your faithful servant Barnabas, who, seeking not his own renown but the well-being of your church, gave generously of his life and substance for the relief of the poor and the spread of the Gospel; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Please continue to pray for one another, for our Cathedral family, the nation, and the world.
