I’m excited to announce a new member of our Cathedral Staff. Please help me welcome Zaheer Popo as our new Associate Organist. Zaheer is currently in the final stages of the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance at the University of Kansas, where he is also a private organ instructor. A native of St. Lucia, Zaheer holds a Master of Music degree in organ performance and a Master of Applied Second Language Acquisition from Missouri State University. He will begin with us on September 30. Thank you to Dr. Lucas Fletcher for all his work on searching for an Associate, and to the Associate Organist Search Committee members: Diane Barker, John Braum, Sharon Cheers, Bill McCandless, Nigel Jones, and Charles Shipley.

While I’m saying thank you, I’d like to also thank everyone who came to our Cathedral Cup Croquet Tournament, A Wicket Wonderland, last Saturday. We had a wonderful time throughout the afternoon as 13 teams came together to compete for the Cup. Here are this year’s winners: Consolation Winner – S’Moores: Kristy and Steve Moore; Champion Runner-up – The Church Keyse: Beth and me; Champion Winner – Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum: Olivia Michka and Jake Gardner. Congratulations to all winners and everyone who competed, it was a lot of fun. Special thanks to all who came out to watch, to our organizers Angela and Ron Michka, to our event coordinator Holly Campbell, and to all who brought food and helped set-up, serve, and clean up.

We have many events coming up over the next couple weeks:

  • Help at Pete’s Garden this Sunday after both services, 9:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.
  • Choral Evensong this Sunday at 5 p.m.
  • Messiah Singalong Fundraiser with KC Jazz Orchestra, Friday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
  • Blessing of the Animals, Saturday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m.
  • Hymn Sing, Sunday, Oct. 5, at 3:30 p.m.

Please continue to pray for one another, for our Cathedral Family, our nation, and the world.
