Dear Friends –
A busy long weekend is ahead! We celebrate the Feast of Pentecost on Sunday, followed by the annual Parish Picnic. The Cathedral will provide the traditional grilled burgers, hot dogs and vegan options; please bring a side dish or dessert to share. Dress casually and enjoy this opportunity for fellowship and fun!
Monday is Memorial Day and the unofficial beginning of summer. The Cathedral offices will be closed in observance of this national holiday but the Memorial Garden will be open all weekend.
Seventy-six years ago, President Truman issued a proclamation declaring Memorial Day as a nationwide day of prayer for permanent peace. In issuing this proclamation, President Truman acknowledged that World War II had not paved the way for peace but instead had left the world in a continued state of unrest. Recognizing the world’s inability to find a lasting peace, Truman stated, “we feel the need of turning in humble suppliance to Almighty God for help and guidance.”
Let us continue to honor and pay tribute to those men and women who lost their lives in defense of our freedom and pray that someday, with God’s help, this world will find permanent peace.
Steve
