Today is the Lesser Feast of St. Augustine of Hippo, noted by Lesser Feasts and Fasts:2018 as “perhaps the most influential theologian in the history of Western Christianity.” (p. 370) He was born in 354 at Tagaste in North Africa. He was a restless seeker for truth, struggled much inwardly against sin, and finally took on the Christian faith in the year 386 thanks to the influence of his mother, Monica (whose feast day is May 4). Augustine was baptized soon after by Ambrose, the Bishop of Milan, and eventually returned to North Africa, to the city of Hippo, and was ordained a priest. Four years later he would become bishop of that city. Some of his many writings include The Confessions and The City of God. Augustine died on this day in the year 430.

Speaking of ordaining priests, I hope you’ll join us tomorrow for the ordinations of Christopher Ryan Dodson, Richard Michael Liantonio, Barbara Janette Platter, and Brandon Mason Smee to the Sacred Order of Priests. The service will be in the Cathedral at 10 a.m. Richard will be with us Sunday morning to celebrate the Eucharist at both morning services. Congratulation to all the ordinands.

• Tiki Cup: Cathedral Cup Croquet Tournament: Saturday, Sept. 12, 12-5 p.m. Sign up to play or just come watch and enjoy the day.
• Our Ministry Fair will be after both morning services on Sept. 13. Come see what volunteer opportunities are available. Also, backpack and Back to School blessings at the 10:30 service.
• Choral Evensong returns on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m.

Don’t forget, we are also having an information session on getting a new organ for the Cathedral. This will be after coffee hour at 12:30 p.m., this Sunday, in the Nave.
