It’s beginning to look a lot like…fall! Now that the autumn season has officially begun, the temperatures have dropped, and it feels like it’s supposed to at this time of year. Pumpkins and mums haven’t completely taken over – yet – but it’s nice to be done with the summer heat. Just because that heat is gone, for now, it doesn’t mean things aren’t still heating up around the Cathedral. We have lots going on as we head into October.
- Pianist Daniel Peycke will be giving a concert at 7 p.m. tonight in the Nave
- This Sunday (9/27) and next Sunday (10/4) following the 10:30 service and postlude, feel free to join our Director of Music, Lucas, for Learning about Hymns
- Our Annual Blessing of the Animals is Saturday, Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. We will be joined this year by the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
- Hymn Sing and Dinner on Friday, Oct. 9 starting at 6 p.m. Join us for a potluck supper followed by singing hymns in the Nave
- Friday, Oct. 16 will be an Outdoor Movie Night. Be sure to vote for the movie you would most like to see.
I’d like to announce the addition of two people to our Cathedral family. They aren’t new to us, just new to the roles they’ll be taking. Courtney Fletcher will be our new, part-time Choral Conductor. Courtney will help Lucas with conducting the choir when he needs to accompany them on the organ. Also, starting Sunday, Oct. 4, the Rev. Robin Rusconi will be joining us as a Deacon. She will function with us on Sundays and special days as her diaconal focus will be with Diocesan programs. Deacon Barbara will continue to focus on matters at the Cathedral. Please join me in welcoming Courtney and Deacon Robin to their new roles.
This coming Tuesday, September 29, is the Feast of St. Michael and all Angels. Lesser Feasts and Fasts reminds us that “Of the many angels spoken of in the Bible, only four are called by name: Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, and Raphael.” These four are the Archangels and are the second order of the nine orders of angels. Here is the Collect for that day:
Everlasting God, you have ordained and constituted in a wonderful order the ministries of angels and mortals: Mercifully grant that, as your holy angels always serve and worship you in heaven, so by your appointment they may help and defend us here on earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (BCP p. 244)
Please continue to pray for one another, for our Cathedral family, our nation, and the world.
