My sister, the people have chosen you and have affirmed their trust in you by acclaiming your election. A bishop in God’s holy Church is called to be one with the apostles in proclaiming Christ’s resurrection and interpreting the Gospel, and to testify to Christ’s sovereignty as Lord of lords and King of kings. You are called to guard the faith, unity, and discipline of the church; to celebrate and to provide for the administration of the sacraments of the New Covenant; to ordain priests and deacons and to join in ordaining bishops; and to be in all things a faithful pastor and wholesome example for the entire flock of Christ.
This is the beginning of the Examination in the ordination of a bishop. These words will be directed to Bishop-Elect Amy as she prepares to be ordained by the Presiding Bishop, Co-consecrating bishops, and all visiting bishops tomorrow at the Cathedral. What an exciting time in the life of the Diocese of West Missouri! It will be such a festive occasion, and I am looking forward to joining with close to 700 fellow members of the diocese and guests as Amy becomes our Ninth bishop. I remind you to have your ticket available if you registered to come in-person tomorrow. The service begins at 10 a.m. and will be live streamed as well.
If you are coming in-person, please park in the parking garage across the street on 13th. This is free, no voucher required, and will open at 7 a.m. tomorrow. The Cathedral parking lots are available for anyone needing handicapped parking, for dropping off people, or for those participating in the service. Please be advised that access will be through the gates on Broadway and 13th Street. The gates at Washington Street and 14th Street will be closed. The service will be followed by a reception in the courtyard. Whether you come in-person, watch online, or join a watch party, I know you will join with me in welcoming our new bishop.
This Monday, May 5, will be the Celebration of Life service for Bob Richmond at 2 p.m., followed by interment in the Memorial Garden and a reception in the courtyard.
Thank you to all who helped plan and came out to our BINGO night last Saturday. It was so much fun, and we have already scheduled our next game night. I hope you’ll join us on Friday, May 16, for Bunco Night at 6 p.m. in the Common Room. Please continue to pray for one another, for our Cathedral family, for Bishop-Elect Amy, the nation, and the world
