From the Desk of Dean Andy • 07.13.2025

Our hearts remain heavy for all those affected by last week’s flooding in Texas and New Mexico. We continue to pray for those who have died, for those still missing, and for their families. I offer this prayer for those in trouble or bereavement (adjusted for modern language). “O merciful God, who has taught us in your holy Word that you do not willingly afflict or grieve your children: Look with pity upon the sorrows of your servants for whom our prayers are offered. Remember them, O Lord, in mercy, nourish their souls with patience, comfort them with a sense of your goodness, lift up your countenance upon them, and give them peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (BCP, p. 831)

There are many events coming up in July that I hope you have on your calendar.

  • Our first of two Parish Breakfasts will be this Sunday, July 13, at 9 a.m. in Founders’ Hall.
  • The Northwest-Metro Deanery summer activity will be an Ice Cream Social on Saturday, July 19, from 3-5 pm at HJ’s Youth and Community Center, across the street from St. Andrew’s, Kansas City. Come join with fellow Episcopalians from around the Deanery and take a break from the heat. Bishop Amy will also be there for a Q and A session.
  • Fr. James’ book study on C.S. Lewis’ The Great Divorce begins Sunday, July 20 at 9:15 a.m. in the Common Room.
  • Movie Night will be Friday, July 25 at 7 pm in the Founders’ Hall Courtyard (rain location is Founders’ Hall). Feel free to bring chairs, blankets, and snacks to share.
  • Ordination to the Sacred Order of Priests will be on Saturday, July 26 at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral. Come join us as Keith Johnson Jr., C.J. Duffie, and Mark Bowers are ordained. C.J. will be the Presider at both of our morning services the next day. Congratulations to all!

Please continue to pray for one another, for our Cathedral family, the nation, and the world.
