I bring you greetings from the 71st Annual North American Cathedral Deans Conference at St. Paul’s Cathedral, San Diego, California. The Conference is made up of current and retired Cathedral Deans and their spouses/partners from the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. We began yesterday evening with a choral Evensong at St. Paul’s, followed by a lovely dinner in the cathedral nave. Today, we have a busy day. The theme of the conference is Cathedral on the Edge, and it plays off both St. Paul’s location on the edge of the continent and the nation, and their innovative spirit. Today and throughout the conference we will hear presentations from speakers on the cathedral’s work in their urban setting, especially dealing with affordable housing, and utilizing cathedral space for addressing civic issues. This is truly a wonderful conference in a wonderful city. I look forward to sharing my experience with all of you when I return. Another great part of this conference is the time we get to spend with other Deans and having the opportunity to share ideas and build relationships.
Don’t forget that Bingo Night is tonight at 6 p.m. in the Common Room, and our Garden work days will be tomorrow and Sunday following morning services. Also, Canon James will lead his workshop on Eucharistic Practices at noon on Sunday.
I ask that you hold all the Deans in your prayers as we are gathered this weekend in San Diego, and please continue to pray for one another, our Cathedral family, our nation, and the world.
